Weekend Recap

Happy Father's Day weekend to all you dads out there! It's been a busy one around here.

Saturday morning started out with the 5k I told you about the other day. There was no sleeping in...my dad and I had to be over in Carmel at 8am for the race. Unfortunately, it was raining pretty heavily when I got up yesterday morning, and they actually delayed the start until 8:30 with the hopes of the raining moving through by then. It rained the whole morning, but it did slow down to more of a light rain for the run. It went pretty well...the course was relatively flat and we were making good time till we got to the end. When we hit the last 0.3 miles or so, the course went from flat pavement to uphill in the grass. I thought to myself, "okay, forget the under 30 minutes goal because it's definitely not happening now," but we both surprised ourselves and finished in 29:55! Barely under 30 minutes, but we did it! Another goal accomplished! Now I just need to keep working at it so that the next time it'll be a little easier. Here are a couple pics from before the race.

We ran in honor of my uncle (my dad's brother-in-law) who was diagnosed last year and still fighting!

This weekend was the 50th anniversary of the Central Indiana Region of the Porsche Club of America, so after the race, we met up with my mom (and a bunch of the Porsche Club people) for breakfast in Zionsville.

That afternoon, they had part of the Brick Street blocked off in downtown Zionsville for a "Porsche Parade." People parked their cars and everyone could go look at all the nice, expensive cars. Somebody even had their light blue Porsche dressed up like Sally Porsche from Cars...very cute.

 

For Father's Day today, TJ and I met up with my parents at a cute little French Cafe in Carmel for brunch. Very yummy and reasonably priced. You can take a look at their website and menu here. We'll definitely be going back sometime. Here are some pictures of my dad opening up his present from me.

As for the rest of today, I need to catch up with some of my couponing...I'm trying to learn a little from those "extreme couponers" but definitely not that extreme. Maybe I'll try to squeeze in a Sunday afternoon nap on the couch too. :) Hope you all had a great weekend and that you have a great week ahead!

Get Your Rear in Gear!

My dad and I definitely have a bug. We've both gotten hooked on running. It's hard not to after you experience the excitement of doing a race, especially the Mini-Marathon. Running with so many other people is some of the best motivation around, and it keeps you going, even after you think you're worn out. (And when you see all the people along the course cheering you on, that only pushes you further.)

I've been keeping my eye on the Indy Runner's calendar, and a couple weeks ago I found a 5k race called "Get Your Rear in Gear." The name definitely got my attention. I clicked on the link and found that it's a 5k race for colon cancer. At first when I mentioned it to my dad, he was hesitant because there are some Porsche Club events that day, but I managed to twist his arm and talk him into running it with me. I've been dealing with some left knee pain since the Mini (self-diagnosed iliotibial band syndrome), so I haven't been able to get a lot of mileage in recently, but a 5k shouldn't be too bad. I'm hoping to work on my speed this summer, and my goal is to do this race in under 30 minutes. We'll see how it goes. We're going out to pick up our packets tonight...should be a good weekend!

Wordless Wednesday

Dinner & Flowers...Not Bad for a Monday

 As you know, yesterday was our 2nd Anniversary. We did our big celebration on Saturday night, when we went out to a nice dinner at Fleming's Steakhouse (yum!), followed by a movie. Yesterday was a little more low-key, but we still managed to spend some time together. TJ works a weird shift (11:45am to 9pm), so I made dinner, and we ate around 9:30 last night when he got home. I made salad, bread, and shrimp pasta and used one of those new Philly cream cheese mix-ins. It turned out pretty good -- it had good flavor but the sauce didn't stay really creamy. Still got good reviews from the hubby, though. :) We had some beautiful weather yesterday, so we were able to eat dinner outside last night on our balcony.

TJ did a really good job and stopped and got me flowers on his way home from work...definitely brought a smile to my face!

Hope you all had a great Tuesday! Gotta run so I can get 3 miles in tonight...my dad and I are doing another 5k this weekend! More details soon!

Two Years!

Two years ago, I married my best friend. It's hard to believe that two years have already passed. On one hand, it seems like that was so long ago already, but on the other hand, it seems like it was just yesterday. I've learned that marriage is not as easy as it looks and that it takes a lot of work. TJ and I have certainly had some ups and downs in these last couple years. However, marriage is one of the best things and there's nothing like knowing you have a partner and support for anything that comes your way. Although it's kind of cheesy, I love him more today than the day I married him!
