3 Months
{as of 9.13.13}
Weight:
We weighed Liam on our scale at home around his 3 month birthday and he was 13lbs, 6.4oz. I was actually a little surprised that he didn't weigh more, but I'm not worried...he's the perfect size to me! :)
Clothes:
We're still fitting in most of the 0-3 month clothes, but we're starting to venture into the 3-6 month collection. We've had a handful of cooler days here in Indy, so it's fun to put more outfits together for Liam instead of all the onesies that he wore over the summer. We're also doing some 6 month sleepers, but we can squeeze him into the 3 month ones too. We just made the switch to size 2 diapers, and they fit him a lot better...plus fewer blowouts which is always good.
Health:
Liam's cradle cap is finally getting better. He still has pretty sensitive skin, so he has random red or rough spots that pop up every couple of days. We have a nice routine of various creams after bathtime each night, and I think that helps a little. He's had some congestion here and there, but nothing too bad, and definitely no fevers. Stay healthy, little man!
Diet:
100% Mama's milk! Three months and still going strong!! I am so happy and grateful that breastfeeding has gone so well and has been relatively easy for us. {Yes, I still need to do a post on our breastfeeding journey.} It's amazing how much my schedule seems to revolve around when Liam needs to eat. {It's all about him, right?} Even when I'm at work, I'm always thinking about when I'm going to pump and what time my mom gives him his bottles. I am planning on exclusively breastfeeding for the first 6 months, and I really hope that I'll be able to keep up with work and pumping. We haven't decided for sure, but I am seriously considering doing baby-led weaning {BLW} instead of introducing purees. I like the idea of it and the fact that Liam would eat what we eat from the beginning. I think it will really help foster mealtimes as a family {this is super important to me}, we won't have to worry about who has to feed Liam, it will let him work on his independence {he has to feed himself}, and he can learn and explore all the different foods himself. If anyone has done this in their family or if you have suggestions on websites or books about BLW, please let me know! I will be doing a lot of research on this in the next couple months!

Sleep:
At the 8 week mark, Liam started sleeping through the night from about 9:30/10pm to around 6am. He didn't do it every night, but it was at least 50% of the time. At 10 weeks, he started sleeping through the night every night from about 9:30/10pm to 6-7am! It's glorious! We've had him sleeping in his crib since our third night at home, and he is still doing great with it. Naps remain variable, but on days that we're home, he will usually take at least 1 or 2 of his naps in his crib. His other naps are either in the Rock n' Play or in his carseat/stroller if we're out and about. My mom watches him while I'm at work, and he does really well taking naps in the Pack n' Play at my parents' house. I am so glad we have a good sleeper...it definitely makes a difference!

Schedule:
Liam eats every 2.5-3 hours during the day for a total of six feedings. He can almost always make it 3 hours, but sometimes I shorten it to 2.5 hours if we're a little off schedule, and we try to get back on it. I think it will be at least another month before we extend to every 4 hours...he definitely still needs six feedings as opposed to five.
Our typical schedule looks like this:
7:30/8am: First feeding of the day
8:30: Nap
10/10:30am: Feed
1/1:30pm: Feed
4/4:30pm: Feed
7pm: Feed
8:30/9pm: Bathtime
9:30/10pm: Last feeding and bedtime
 |
| naptime |
He doesn't take a nap after every time that he eats. Sometimes he just has wake time till he eats again, or sometimes he'll just take a little catnap. I'm thinking that I need to readjust his schedule because he has been acting really tired around 8/8:30pm, so I think he would do best if he went down for the night around that time. The only bad part about an earlier bedtime is on the weekends when we like to go out to dinner or even just go over to my parents' house, it makes getting home in time for bedtime kind of challenging. Suggestions from you mamas out there?

Milestones:
Over the past month, Liam is smiling even more, watching us and following us with his eyes, and starting to really grab objects that we put within his reach. He has definitely discovered his voice this month and LOVES to talk to us. One Sunday at church, he started talking towards the end of Mass and his expression was kind of like,
Mom, why aren't you talking to me? {We usually have conversations when he's in a talking mood.} It was so funny, and TJ and I couldn't help but laugh. Thankfully, Mass was just about over so we didn't have to worry about disrupting anything.
Liam hasn't rolled over yet, and hasn't really made us think he will on his own any time soon, but I think he has been working on his social/communication and fine motor skills instead of the gross motor skills. We can tell he is a strong little guy though...he has great head control and his quads are so strong already!
Social:
Liam made his first trip up to Grandma Sharon's {my MIL} this month
He also tagged along on Mommy's girl's night out
We've gone to more restaurants...

He watched his first college and NFL games {decked out in the appropriate gear too}
He even Facetimed with Mommy during the work day!
Postpartum:
Although I had a quick and pretty easy recovery after having Liam, there are times that I think my body is totally falling apart. I've dealt with wrist pain {DeQuervain's tenosynovitis}, foot pain, knee pain, and a couple episodes of back pain. I've wanted to get back to running, and even though I've gone on a couple runs here and there, it hasn't been anything on a regular basis. Back when I was still pregnant, I signed up for a half marathon on November 2 thinking that it wouldn't be a problem, but I'm realizing now that I probably won't be running it. Maybe I can still walk/run it, but I may have to just do the 5K. We'll see. I'm disappointed, but I can't beat myself up over it.
Unfortunately, over the last month, my migraines have returned. I hardly had any headaches while I was pregnant {it was AMAZING!}, but now they're back with a vengeance, and my treatment choices are limited because I'm breastfeeding. As of last Monday, I'm back on a prophylactic medicine, and I really hope that it will bring some relief. I can't be incapacitated by them every two weeks like it's been for the last month!
Despite my aches and pains, I am loving this stage with Liam. He is so much fun, and I'm trying to soak up every minute of my time with him!
~~~~~
Liam,
Every day, you never cease to amaze me. The amount of stuff you are learning, and the fact that you're changing every day is just beyond me. I wish I could see inside your brain and know what you are thinking...you are one smart little guy. You keep us guessing sometimes, but you are also somewhat predictable. You have Mommy and Daddy wrapped around your little fingers...we love you so much, little buddy!
all my love,
mommy
