This weekend was one of those weekends I could put on repeat. Especially Saturday. It was just a great day.
Let's start at the beginning though....
Friday:
Friday night was my first time to cover a high school football game by myself. For the last month, my boss who is the normal team doc for the high school is there as back-up, but this week, he had another commitment so it was just me. Actually, the orthopedic surgeon who is the other team doc was there for the first half, but then he had to leave, so that meant I was in charge. And not only was it just for our team, but I was also covering for the visiting team because they were an hour and a half away from home and their regular docs didn't make the trip.
I'm not gonna lie, I was a little nervous going into the game, but it ended up being great. Nothing happened during the first half -- of course because that's when I had backup -- but we did have some action during the second half. In the 4th quarter, the athletic trainer from the other team came over and wanted me to come look at one of their player's shoulders. I thought to myself, please let me be able to handle this, but I stayed calm while I walked over to the other side. After talking to the athlete and taking a look at his shoulder, I was pretty sure he fractured his clavicle {collar bone}, and needed to go to the ER for pain meds and an x-ray.
The only other thing I had to do that night was evaluate a player with a concussion after the game. Friday definitely helped build my confidence....I really can do this whole sports medicine thing!
Saturday:
Even though I stayed up too late on Friday night, I woke up bright and early to run a 10K at Butler University. It was a beautiful morning with temperatures in the 50s and 60s -- I really couldn't have asked for a better day to run.
 |
| beautiful sunrise as I drove to the race {don't worry, it was 7am and no one was on the road!} |
 |
| I got a picture of Blue II, one of the Butler mascots! |
 |
| I finished close to my goal time so I was extremely happy! |
It was only 9am after the race was over, so I met my parents to walk a little bit and get some coffee. I ended up running another mile with my dad, so I ran a total of 7.2 miles on Saturday...woo hoo! One of my favorite things about the running trail I go to is that it is right by Starbucks, and on Saturday, I rewarded myself with my first Pumpkin Spice latte of the season! Delicious!
After I sat and talked with my parents for awhile {it was so nice outside!}, my mom and I went out to lunch with my aunt. She had been up in our neck of the woods for my cousins' cross country meet, and we ended up sitting and talking at Jason's Deli for a couple hours. Once again, it was just so nice outside to not be outdoors!
 |
| P.S. Whoever had the idea to give people free soft serve with their meal was a genius. Seriously, one of the best things ever! |
Since Nordstrom Rack is right next to Jason's Deli, we had to go there before heading home. My mom may or may not have gotten me a couple things {thanks Mom!}...
Saturday night, TJ and I met my parents for a quick dinner before going to see my sister-in-law perform in a community theater's production of A Chorus Line. It was a great show {I love that musical!}, and Tiffany did a wonderful job! TJ and I wrapped up the day hanging out with his mom, grandma, aunt, sister {my sis-in-law}, and our brother-in-law for a couple hours.
It was just the perfect day, and I wish I could have one of those every weekend.
Sunday:
The Colts had their first home game of the regular season yesterday, so TJ and I headed downtown after church to enjoy the game. They always have a HUGE flag during the National Anthem, and yesterday, they had a helicopter hover in that big window {you can see it in the top right corner} during the Anthem too. It was pretty awesome.

The game was good, but a little too close for comfort. Thankfully, the Colts got a field goal in the last couple seconds of the game to beat the Vikings, 23-20. Go Horse!

If you made it through that whole post, you're amazing. Sorry that got a little longer than I thought it would be!
Hope you have a wonderful week!
